Bursar – City of London Freemen’s School

The Governing Body and Headmaster are seeking to appoint an inspiring, highly-motivated and dynamic individual to join the School’s Senior Leadership Team as Bursar.

City of London Freemen’s School is a thriving independent co-educational day and boarding school for 920 pupils aged 7-18.  Freemen’s occupies a magnificent site in Ashtead Park with modern buildings sitting alongside the original eighteenth-century mansion house set in 62 acres of beautiful parkland.

The role holder will be expected to manage the commercial and business aspects of the School and will require the vision and drive to lead the future planned development of the School’s facilities, implementing an ambitious £40 million Freemen’s Estate Development Plan to improve opportunities for all pupils in the School.

Reporting to the Headmaster, the Bursar will lead and manage a diverse support staff, exercise oversight of the School’s financial resources, including charitable provision for bursaries and have a strategic overview of: the estate and buildings, including boarding accommodation; catering and soft-services; human resources and information technology.

The successful candidate will be an individual of proven leadership ability, a strategic thinker and able to establish highly effective, collaborative working relationships at all levels.  The Bursar will work closely with a range of talented senior and middle leaders both at the School and at The City of London Corporation as well as a committed staff and supportive Governors to ensure the School’s aims and vision are realised for the Freemen’s community.  Financial literacy and robust commercial judgement will be essential.

Candidates will have a genuine interest in and empathy for education but we encourage submissions from applicants with a background in other sectors.

The post is available from April 2019, but the actual start date is flexible for the successful candidate.
